Mercedes GLA220 by Generation
The name stayed the same, the electrical system did not. Find the years your car was built in and the differences that matter.
The original GLA, built on the A-Class platform. Main AGM in the engine bay on the passenger side, with a small auxiliary battery most consistently reported in the passenger footwell area under the cabin filter housing.
The second GLA, taller and with MBUX in the cabin, which means more standing electrical load to settle after you lock it. The battery job is unchanged in shape, and the auxiliary unit remains.
Short Trips Are the Problem, Not the Mileage
Starting an engine is the single largest withdrawal a battery makes, and the alternator spends the following minutes putting it back. On a drive of a few kilometres from a basement to an office car park, it does not finish the job. Do that twice a day, every day, and the battery lives permanently at less than full charge, which is precisely the state in which heat does its damage fastest.
That is why a GLA with very low mileage can need a battery sooner than one that covers long distances. The car has not worked hard, but its battery has never been allowed to recover either. Owners describe it as a car that was fine for two years and then failed with no warning, which is exactly what this pattern produces.
Add what gets fitted afterwards. Trackers on financed cars, dash cameras wired to a permanent live, alarms and audio installed by whoever was cheapest. Any of those that does not go properly to sleep keeps drawing after you have gone upstairs, and a car that is already undercharged has no reserve to absorb it.

Mercedes GLA220 Battery Questions
Sources vary, but the most consistently reported position on the X156 is the passenger footwell area, under or behind the cabin filter housing, reached by lifting the mat. It is a small sealed unit of roughly 12 to 14Ah, about the size of a motorcycle battery. Our technician checks the car rather than relying on one source.
