Mercedes-AMG - G-ClassMercedes G63 Battery Replacement in Dubai
Two things make the G63 different from every other Mercedes on this site. On the W463 the battery lives under the cabin floor rather than under the bonnet or in the boot, so the job is done from inside the car. And in Dubai the G63 spends much of its life parked, which is what flattens it. Battery Zone UAE comes to wherever the car sits, lifts the correct group H8 AGM into place and registers it to the vehicle, 24 hours a day.

Mercedes G63 by Generation
The name stayed the same, the electrical system did not. Find the years your car was built in and the differences that matter.
The 5.5 litre M157 biturbo V8 at 544hp, later 571hp, in the original body. Group H8 battery under the cabin floor, reached by lifting the panel behind the centre console. No start-stop and no auxiliary battery to complicate things.
The 4.0 litre M177 biturbo V8 at 585hp in the redesigned body. The battery leaves the cabin floor, and an auxiliary unit sits behind the passenger footwell. Start-stop arrives, and with it the auxiliary battery warning.
The same M177 with a 48V mild-hybrid starter generator, so a lithium 48V battery joins the 12V main and the auxiliary unit. Three batteries, and the 12V still the one that decides whether the car wakes.
The Battery Under the Floor
Mercedes built the original G-Class for the military, and it shows in where the battery went: out of the engine bay, away from water and heat, under the cabin floor in front of the rear seat. It is a sensible place for a vehicle that fords rivers. It is a nuisance for one that lives in a Dubai villa, because the only way in is to lift the floor panel and work from inside the car.
That is why W463 batteries get left. A group H8 AGM weighs around 25 kilograms, it comes out through a rear door, and doing it in a car park in August is nobody's idea of a Saturday. Battery Zone UAE technicians do it regularly, with the panel lifted cleanly, the terminals disconnected in the right order, the tray checked for corrosion and the new battery clamped so it cannot move on rough ground.
On the W463A of 2018 onwards the battery left the cabin, and an auxiliary unit appeared behind the passenger footwell trim. It is a different job with a different set of things to test, and the auxiliary battery message it can throw is one the older car never had.
Why G63s Go Flat in Dubai
It is rarely a bad battery. It is a good battery treated in the way that kills good batteries.

Signs a G63 Battery Is on Its Way Out
Usually the car is fine on the first start of the week and wrong by the third.
A slower, longer crank after the car has stood for a few days
A dash full of warnings on start-up that clear once the engine runs
Start-stop that no longer engages on a W463A
An auxiliary battery malfunction message on a W463A, which points at the footwell unit
Seat, mirror and media memory lost after the car has been parked
A battery over two years old on a car that is driven occasionally
How Battery Zone UAE Handles a G63
Body and Year
W463 or W463A from the year or VIN, which tells the technician where the battery is and whether there is an auxiliary unit or a 48V system to check.
Tested Where It Sits
Main battery under cranking load, auxiliary where fitted, charging output and the standing draw that is usually the real culprit on this car.
H8 Fitted Properly
Under the floor on a W463, through the rear door, clamped for off-road use. In the W463A's own position on newer cars. Then registered to the battery management system.
Advice on Keeping It Charged
If the car sits, Battery Zone UAE will say so and suggest how to stop the new battery meeting the same end.
Mercedes G63 Battery Questions
On the W463 built up to 2018 it is under the cabin floor, beneath a panel in front of the rear seat behind the centre console. On the W463A from 2018 it leaves the cabin floor, and there is a separate auxiliary unit behind the passenger footwell trim. Battery Zone UAE confirms the layout from your year.
BCI group H8, also listed as L5 or 49, an AGM of around 92 to 95Ah. It is a large, heavy battery and the same group used in the S-Class and the C63. Battery Zone UAE confirms it against your VIN before the visit.
Because a parked G63 is never fully asleep. The alarm, telematics and control units draw current all day, and any aftermarket tracker or camera adds to it. A few weeks is enough. Battery Zone UAE measures the standing draw during the visit and will tell you if something is drawing more than it should.
Yes, and on a W463 the job is done from inside the car, so it is no harder in a villa garage than in a workshop. Battery Zone UAE comes to wherever the car is parked anywhere in Dubai, 24 hours a day, with the correct H8 AGM on board.
Yes. The 2024 update gives the G63 a 48V mild-hybrid starter generator with its own lithium battery, alongside the 12V main and the auxiliary unit. The 12V still does the waking and the running of the electronics, so a flat 12V leaves the newest G63 as stuck as the oldest.
On the W463A yes, and Battery Zone UAE does it at your location. The car charges according to what it believes about the battery, and a new one has to be registered or it is treated as the old one from day one. On the earlier W463 it is good practice and takes a minute.
