Mercedes-Benz - CLK CoupeMercedes CLK350 Battery Replacement in Dubai
If a CLK Cabriolet roof has stopped working, the battery is worth testing but it is not the first suspect. The glass has to drop before the top can move, and owners of this generation report rear window regulators failing so the window never drops far enough to let the roof start. Battery Zone UAE tests the battery properly and tells you honestly when the readings point somewhere else, at your location anywhere in Dubai.

The M272 in CLK350 form.
The top will not move until they have.
Glass that does not drop far enough blocks the roof.
And the micro switch at the roof pivot.
Low voltage can stop the sequence too.
The coupe has none of this to worry about.
Mercedes CLK350 by Generation
The CLK350 came as a coupe and as a cabriolet, and the two need different conversations once anything electrical goes wrong.
The fixed-roof CLK350 with the 3.5 litre M272. A conventional electrical system with none of the roof sequence to complicate a diagnosis, which makes it a straightforward car to work on.
The soft top, where the windows must drop before the roof can operate and a hydraulic pump does the work. Most roof complaints on this generation trace to the windows, the relays or a pivot switch rather than to the battery.
The Windows Decide Whether the Roof Moves
A CLK Cabriolet lowers its side glass before the top begins to fold, because the windows have to be out of the way for the roof to travel. That makes the window mechanism part of the roof mechanism, and it means a single failed regulator can stop the whole sequence while everything else is in perfect order.
Owners of this generation describe exactly that: rear regulators that fail so the glass does not drop far enough to allow the top to operate. Others have traced intermittent roofs to the relays sitting beside the hydraulic pump, and at least one to a worn micro switch at the roof pivot that had simply fallen apart. None of those is a battery.
That said, voltage does matter, and a roof is a demanding thing to run with the engine idling. So the sensible order is to have the battery load tested, which is quick and free, and then move to the windows and relays if it passes. What we will not do is sell you a battery for a roof fault that a battery cannot fix.
Roof Not Working: Where to Look First
A rough guide for a CLK Cabriolet, based on what owners of these cars report most often.
| What happens | Most likely | Also possible |
|---|---|---|
| Windows go down, roof does nothing | Relays or the hydraulic pump | A pivot micro switch |
| A rear window does not drop fully | That window's regulator | A motor or its wiring |
| Nothing moves at all | Battery or a main supply fault | A roof control module |
| Works on the second attempt | Marginal voltage or a tired relay | A sticking switch |
| Stopped after the car stood a month | Battery first | Then the above |
| Engine starts perfectly throughout | Points away from the battery | But test it anyway |
Battery Zone UAE tests the battery free and says plainly when the readings point at the roof rather than at us.
What We Can and Cannot Do for You
Being clear about the boundary is more useful than pretending there is not one.

Battery Symptoms on a CLK350
Separate from the roof, these are the signs the battery itself is finished.
A crank that drags before the V6 catches, worst after a hot afternoon
The key fob becoming unreliable, which can also be the fob's own cell
Clock and radio presets lost after the car has stood a few days
Windows running slowly in both directions, not just one
Warnings on start-up that clear once the engine is running
Any battery past two years old in a car that is driven at weekends
How the Visit Works
Coupe or Cabriolet
And what the car is actually doing. The two body styles lead to quite different conversations on this model.
We Reach the Car
Anywhere in Dubai, 24 hours a day, including a car that cannot be driven because its roof is half open.
Battery Tested Free
Under load, with the alternator output measured. The result decides what is said next.
Replaced or Referred

Mercedes CLK350 Battery Questions
Possibly, but on this generation it more often is not. The windows must drop before the roof can move, and owners widely report rear regulators failing so the glass does not drop far enough to let the top operate. Have the battery tested first because it is quick and free, then look at the windows and the relays.
Because the glass sits in the way of the roof's travel. The car lowers it as the first step of the sequence, which makes the window mechanism part of the roof mechanism. One failed regulator can therefore stop the whole operation with nothing else wrong.
Only if the battery is what stopped it. If the engine starts strongly and the windows move normally, a new battery is unlikely to change anything, and we will tell you that rather than sell you one. If the car has stood for a long time and everything is sluggish, the battery is a much better bet.
No. Our work is batteries, testing and the electrical side of why a car will not start or will not wake up. Regulators, hydraulic pumps and pivot switches are a roof specialist's job, and we would rather point you at one than take on work we are not the right people for.
It can be either. The fob has its own cell that typically lasts a year or two, and a flat car battery also prevents the locks responding. Our technician checks both, since swapping a coin cell is considerably cheaper than anything else on the list.
Not in the way a modern Mercedes does. This generation predates the battery management registration that newer cars require, so fitting is quick. The windows do need their positions re-learned afterwards, and we do that before leaving.
