Mercedes CLA200 by Generation
The name stayed the same, the electrical system did not. Find the years your car was built in and the differences that matter.
The first CLA, on the W176 A-Class platform with the 1.6 litre M270 turbo. AGM main battery under the bonnet cover and a small auxiliary unit that varies in position by build date.
Second generation on the W177 A-Class platform, with the 1.33 litre M282. Larger main battery, MBUX in the cabin, and an auxiliary unit owners most often find behind the passenger footwell trim.
The petrol CLA200 becomes a 48V mild hybrid. A compact lithium 48V battery joins the 12V main and auxiliary units, so there are three batteries and three ways to be stranded.
An A-Class in a Coupé Suit
Mercedes builds the CLA and the A-Class on the same platform, and the electrical architecture comes with it. That is good news for a CLA200 owner in Dubai: the parts are common, the failure patterns are well understood, and Battery Zone UAE has done this job on a great many W176 and W177 A-Class cars already.
The main battery is not in the boot, where most people look. It is in the engine bay under a plastic cover on the passenger side, in a tray shared with the A200. Beside it, or behind the footwell trim depending on the year, sits the small auxiliary battery that keeps the electronics alive during a start-stop restart.
The 1.33 litre and 1.6 litre engines in this car start on very little current, which is a mixed blessing. A tired battery keeps starting the CLA200 long after it would have failed to start a bigger car, so the first symptoms are electrical rather than mechanical, and they are easy to dismiss.

Mercedes CLA200 Battery Questions
In the engine bay, under a plastic cover on the passenger side, in the same position as the A-Class the car is based on. It is not in the boot. The small auxiliary battery is separate and its position depends on the build date.
